Fifth Anniversary of The Station Nightclub Fire
Stations Family Fund Benefit Concert

A memorial to those killed in the fire set up at the actual site of The Station Nightclub.

February 20th marked the five year anniversary of the terrible fire at The Station Nightclub in Rhode Island during a Great White set. One hundred fans died that night. Scores of children were orphaned. Federal funds were not made available. Health insurance isn’t a reality for many of the survivors, some of whom face lifelong and debilitating scarring, blindness, and a host of other hardcore physical complications.

"What do you say about something like that?" Great White singer Jack Russell tells the House of Hair about that night. (The band’s bassist, Ty Longley, also died in the fire). “I mean, I’ve talked about this so many times and it was a horrible tragedy. Obviously, we wish it never happened. I don’t really hold anybody or any one particular thing responsible. I think it was a culmination of things, kind of like an airline disaster. The first domino fell long before we got to that club. You know, poor inspections, illegal foam on the ceilings that shouldn’t have been there. That should have been noticed but it wasn’t. There was just a lot of mistakes made and hopefully in the aftermath of all this people will take public safety a little more seriously. I feel guilt every day for inviting my friends, our fans, to join us at the show that night.”

A benefit concert featuring Twisted Sister, Tesla, Winger, Stryper and a host of other rock, country and Christian bands have teamed up for Phoenix Rising: Musicians United to Benefit the Victims of The Station Nightclub Fire. The concert takes place at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, RI, this Monday, February 25th. Dee Snider is hosting the event and all proceeds go to benefit the Station Family Fund, which distributes 100% of all donations to the victims.

The House of Hair will have all the updates as we gear up for Rocklahoma, so keep it tuned. Plus, once again we'll be sending listeners to the rock event of the year, with VIP tickets and chances to meet their favorite artists.
